Pattern index
Named fillings in the jigumi.
A kumiko “pattern” is usually a filling sitting in a jigumi. Maker catalogs often cite “nearly 200” named designs, a repeated trade estimate. Asanoha, kikkō, mitsukude, and goma/shippō appear in maker lists and published books.
Asanoha 麻の葉
Hemp leaf. Triangular-grid filling; also a square variant (kaku-asanoha) with a different angle set.
Kikkō 亀甲
Tortoise-shell hexagon. Often the jigumi itself; variants (tsumiishi, bishamon, sakura-kikkō) are catalog subnames.
Mitsukude 三つ組手
Three-way joint. Foundation of 60° work. Yoshihara files it under kikkō-gumi.
Goma 胡麻 / Shippō 七宝
Two names. Sesame filling versus overlapping circles — two rod layouts, not one pattern.

Maker sites attach auspicious meanings to almost every pattern: growth, longevity, family happiness. That language is modern sales copy and conventional wagara commentary. A name may be a plant, an animal, or a Buddhist vocabulary word.
